Karwa Chauth is a festival celebrated by Hindu women from the Indian Subcontinent on the fourth day after Purnima a full moon in the month of Kartika. Like many Hindu festivals, Karwa Chauth is based on the lunisolar calendar which accounts for all astronomical positions, especially positions of the moon which is used as a marker to calculate important dates. The festival falls on the fourth day after the full moonin the Hindu lunisolar calendar month of Kartik.Homeopathy tamil video
On Karwa Chauth, married women, especially in North Indiaobserve fast from sunrise to moonrise for the safety and longevity of their husbands. Karva is another word for ' pot ' a small earthen pot of water and chauth means 'fourth' in [] a reference to the fact that the festival falls on the fourth day of the dark-fortnight, or Krishna pakshof the month of Kartik.
Karwa Chauth is mostly celebrated in Northern India. One hypothesis is that military campaigns were often conducted by men in far off places whereby men would leave their wives and children at home to go off to the war. Their wives would often pray for their safe return. The festival also coincides with the wheat-sowing time i. Big earthen pots in which wheat is stored are sometimes called Karwasso the fast may have begun as a prayer for a good harvest in this predominantly wheat-eating Northwestern region.
Another story about the origin of this festival relates to the bond of feminine friendship. With the custom of arranged marriage being prevalent, the newlywed is supposed to reside with her husband and in-laws. Being new to the family, the custom arose of befriending another woman as her friend kangan-saheli or sister dharam-behn for life.
The friendship would be sanctified through a Hindu ritual during the marriage ceremony itself. The bride's friend would usually be of the same age or slightly oldertypically married into the same village so that she would not go away and not directly related to her in-laws so there was no conflict of interest later.
This emotional and psychological bond would be considered akin to a blood relationship. It is said that Karva Chauth festival evolved to include celebrating this special bond of friendship. A few days before Karva Chauth, married women would buy new Karwas spherical clay pots —" in diameter and 2—3 litres capacity—and paint them on the outside with beautiful designs.
Inside, they would put bangles and ribbons, home-made candy and sweets, make-up items, and small clothes. The women would then visit each other on the day of Karwa Chauth and exchange these Karwas. The following dates are based on the Hindu calendar.
Women begin preparing for Karwa Chauth a few days in advance, by buying adornments shringarjewelry, and puja items, such as the Karwa lamps, matthihenna and the decorated puja thali plate.
In Uttar Pradeshcelebrants eat soot feni with milk in sugar on the eve of the festival. It is said that this helps them go without water the next day. It is traditional for the sargi to be sent or given to the fasting woman by her mother-in-law. If she lives with her mother-in-law, the pre-dawn meal is prepared by the mother-in-law. On Karwa Chauth occasion, fasting women choose to wear Karwa chauth special dresses like a traditional saari or lehenga to look their best.
In some regions, women wear traditional dresses of their states. The fast begins at dawn. Fasting women do not eat during the day. Saint Garibdas Ji Maharaj says:. Kahe jo karava chauth kahaanee Taas gadaharee nishchay jaanee Kare ekaadashee sanjam soee Karava chauth gadaharee hoee . In traditional observances of the fast, the fasting woman usually does no housework. In the Indian Hindu scriptures, fast are considered as a might act.
In the medical field also it is described that keeping Vrat is good for health and helps a person to stay fit. Keeping fast also relaxes the digestive system of our stomach.
After concluding the fast, lots of food should not me eaten immediately. Before understanding the rules of fast, we should know about it first. Basically, people consider Vrat and Upvas as the same thing.
You may have food while fasting. But, in Upvas no food is taken. The meaning of both should be understood clearly. After this only, one should decide whether to keep Vrat or Upvas. Staying without having food for the whole day is called Upvas. Soul of a human purifies on observing Vrat. Person's resolution power increases. Intelligence, thoughts, cleverness and knowledge is improved. Vrat reduces the count of sins and diseases. As it is well known, that sin is somatic, vocal, mental and contact generation.
Upvas gives liberation from sin, and enormity or evil acts. In Hindus fast is given lots of importance. Fast is the reflection of devotion, faith and confidence in God. Vrat is observed for the fulfilment of wishes like good business, art, skills and for other desires of life.
Upvas gives a mental, physical and spiritual peace. Hence, it is successful in keeping us away from disease and stay fit. As per our work, all of us must observe Upvas once in a week.
The week day fasting are very profitable.
Vrat has a lot of significance in making human life successful. By following the rules of Upvas, and ensuring according to it is a kind of meditation. Basically, the moral of Upvas is to relax the digestive system of stomach.
Digestive system of a human being is continuously working and to give it a rest, Upavas is observed. If observed religiously, it is said to be the most rewarding and granting the virtue gained by the observance of all 24 ekadshis in the year.
Bhima, a lover of food, wanted to observe all ekadashi fasts, but could not control his hunger. He approached the sage Vyasaauthor of the Mahabharata and grandfather of the Pandavas for a solution.
The sage advised him to observe Nirjala Ekadashi, when for one day in the year, he should observe an absolute fast. Bhima attained the virtue of all 24 ekadashis, by observing Nirjala Ekadashi. While on other ekadashis abstinence of food is observed, on Nirjala Ekadashi, an absolute fast is observed, without partaking even water.
Water more than that equals breaking the vow. Like other ekadashis, puja is offered to Vishnufor whom ekadashis are sacred, to seek his grace. An image of Vishnu or a Saligrama stone an iconic fossil stone in the form of Vishnu is bathed abhisheka with Panchamritaa mixture of five foods: milk, curd, ghee clarified butterhoney and sugar.
It is then washed with water and then dressed in royal finery. A hand-fan is also offered. Flowers, incense, water and arati lamps are also offered. Devotees meditate on the image of God. In the evening, they worship Vishnu with durva grass in their hands. Devotees remain awake the whole night and sing praises of Vishnu or meditate on his image.
Another characteristic of ekadashis is charity to Brahmins the priest class. Clothes, food grains, umbrellas, hand-fans, pitchers filled with water, gold etc.
The second son of Kunti and King Pandu, Bheema loved to eat.
He could never observe fast and control his hunger. Miffed with himself for disrespecting Lord Vishnu, Bheema met Maharishi Vyasa to seek a solution to this problem. And after meeting the sage, Bheema started observing Nirjala Ekadashi. He was told that by fasting on this date, he would derive the benefits of all the other Ekadashis. The vrata observed on this day is said to wash away all sin. It is most popular and strictly observed by the Vaishnavasin particular .
The observer gains longevity and moksha salvation. Yama then judges the person's deeds and sends him to Svarga heaven or Naraka Hell.
However, one who observes the Nirjala Ekadashi rituals is believed to be excused Yama's judgement and taken by messengers of Vishnu to Vaikunthathe abode of Vishnu, after death.Huitres variees definition
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Nirjala Ekadashi Vishnu. Main traditions.Hindus have believe that the fortnightly cycle of the moon exerts a great influence on the human anatomy, just as it affects the water bodies on earth in cycles of tides. During a full moon, a person may tend to become restless, irritable and ill-tempered, showing signs of behavior that hints of 'lunacy'— a term derived from the Latin word for moon, "luna.
These dates are mentioned at the end of this article. Only after a whole day of fasting, prayers and a dip in the river do they take light food at dusk. It is ideal to fast or take light food on full moon and new moon days, as it is said to reduce the acidic content in our system, slows down the metabolic rate and increases endurance.
This restores the body and mind balance. Praying, too, helps in subduing the emotions and controls the outburst of temper. Most Hindus observe a fast on that day and offer food to their ancestors. According to Garuda Purana Preta KhandaLord Vishnu is believed to have said that the ancestors come to their descendants, on Amavasya to partake of their food and if nothing is offered to them they are displeased.

For this reason, Hindus prepare 'shraddha' food and await their ancestors. Devotees vow to accept the new with optimism as new moon ushers in the hope of a new dawn. Usually, the Purnima fast lasts for 12 hours--from sunrise to sunset. Are castor beans poisonous to birds
People on fast do not consume rice, wheat, pulses, grains and salt during the duration this time. Some devotees take fruits and milk, but some observe it rigidly and go even without water depending on their capability of endurance. In the evening, after sighting the moon, they partake of the 'prasad' or divine food along with some light food. Hindus perform a 'yagna' or 'havan' on purnima, called the Maha Mritunjaya havan.
It is a significant and powerful ritual very simply undertaken. The devotee first takes a bath, cleanses his body and wears clean clothes.
He then prepares a bowl of sweet rice and adds to it black sesame seeds, diced 'kush' grass, some vegetables and butter. Then he lays the 'havan kund' to strike the holy fire. On a designated area, a layer of sand is spread and then a tent-like structure of wooden logs is erected and smeared with 'ghee' or clarified butter. The devotee then takes three sips of the Gangajaal or holy water from the river Ganga while chanting "Om Vishnu" and lights the sacrificial fire by placing camphor on the wood.
Lord Vishnu, along with other Gods and Goddesses, are invoked, followed by the chanting of the Mritunjaya mantra in honor of Lord Shiva :.
Om trayam bakkam, yajaa-mahe Sugan-dhim pushti-vardhanam, Urvaa-rooka-miva bandha-naam, Mrityor mooksheeya maamritaat. The mantra is ended with "Om Swaahaa. This is repeated times. After completion of the 'havan' the devotee must ask for forgiveness for any mistakes he has unknowingly committed during the ritual.
Finally, another 'maha mantra' is chanted 21 times:. At the end, just as the gods and the goddess were invoked at the onset of the havan, similarly, after its completion, they are requested to return to their abodes. Moon Calendar and Vrata Dates. Keep vs observe a fast. Thread starter Lun Start date Oct 21, Lun Banned Hindi. Hi Today is Karwa Chauth; I have kept fast today. What is the difference between to keep a fast and to observe a fast? Both of them are wrong. Thanks, KeithBradford. Is the meaning of both to fastto observe fast same or is there any difference?
But as you suggested it is wrong, i. The meaning is the same. Thanks very much, KBd. I was just looking for another verb other than "observe". Is there any you know of? Of course, there are always other paraphrases such as "comply with the requirements of Sparky Malarky Moderator Indiana.
If you are supposed to refrain from eating, but you do eat, you will say "I broke my fast. No, I did not. In this case, I think you could say "No, I kept my fast. It is more common and natural to say "He encouraged me to just taste one of his cookies, but I did not break my fast.

Now onto another benefit for brushless tech for me is a more compact, shorter, and lighter tool. Because of its size and weight the dcd985 is my least used cordless drill. Switching to some thing like the Milwaukee fuel hammer drill might not change that but it would help. Im not trying to push others into switching to brushless or even switch brands.
I am just stating reasons why it makes sense for me to switch. I see cordless as the future in power tools. With improvements in battery tech and motor efficiency, one day the cord for many portable power tools will be obsolete. Chris saysAug 10, 2013 at 6:26 amThe 4. A cordless can do great things but if your doing regular work with these tools a Corded wins everything But if you need to switch go got it but the majority of the market is going to stick with what works for them Javier saysAug 10, 2013 at 4:01 pmThe 4.
Under heavy use I would still find myself waiting a bit for the batteries to completely charge. I get it loud and clear about the benefits of corded tools like power, unlimited run time, and cheaper.
But Im still going to get a brushless drill. It has pros and cons just like cordless has pros and cons. Ill stick to what works for me. When I was talking about cordless tools making corded ones obsolete I was talking about portable power tools. One thing that I can say for sure is that brushless motors in those tools made a huge difference. Literally night and day. I also use a 20v max dewalt as my big drill. I picked up the DCD950 last fall for pretty cheap.Fanuc alarm code list pdf
The 20v max is no slouch but I could always use more power and runtime. Such tools require little redesign and development, as they can be based off the same motors and gearing used in the new budget impact driver. The new rotary hammer has been confirmed as being listed as brushless in some Dewalt catalogs, but they have yet to comment on that matter.
Dewalt probably wants to keep the brushed motor compact drill kits at lower prices so that users with higher budgets and more demanding runtime needs look more towards the brushless kits with 2.
The premium drills are now kitted with 4. Chris saysAug 10, 2013 at 11:09 amWell all the big drill kits with the 3. Double the run time of non brushless. I will always pay the extra cash for the brushless vs non if given the choice. Bring on the brushless.
Milwaukee and Makita (among other brands) have been using brushless technology for years. From what I can see physically, high torque brushless motors have bigger field and armature. I believe dewalt will come out with one eventually after it finds the best balance for brushless size motor and battery use.
One thing that I like about dewalt is that it likes to wait to learn from other technology errors to come out with theirsat least that is what I believe. Of course the heavy duty drill was shown to be more powerful than the compact model. The company then used testimonials in their marketing.
That brushless motor has permanent magnets and it looks to be like your typical canned motor.Sports Betting Strategy Another very popular section of The Sports Geek is our Sports Betting Strategy section.
